Polish President Andrzej Duda believes that Russia should pay indemnity for the damage the country faced during the special operation. The Polish leader stated this while speaking at a conference in the Estonian capital of Tallinn.

“Russia must be immediately and completely cut off from profiting from the aggressive war they waged against Ukraine, and the accomplices must face all the consequences their actions, including compensation for the damage caused by them,»,— said Duda.

At a joint press conference with Estonian President Alar Karis, Duda clarified that Russia “should pay indemnity for what it destroyed in Ukraine.”

According to the Polish president, Western countries should find funds to support both Ukraine and refugees who have found shelter in other countries. “It is necessary to think about restoring the infrastructure of Ukraine”, — he said.

Duda also spoke about the need to accelerate the integration of Georgia and Moldova with the European Union, calling this process “expanding the European perspective”, and also opposed the restoration of any relations with Russia even after the end of the special operation.

“We repeat that after the cessation of Russia's attacks, there should not be any relations with it in the usual mode. It doesn't matter what it costs us. <…> I cannot imagine the possibility of doing business normally with Russia, with Russian companies, — said Duda.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that he estimated the cost of restoring the country at about $600 billion. For the first time, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal called the amount of $600 billion. He stated that this amount will be needed to restore the economy and infrastructure in the long term.

The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly said that foreign funds from the Bank of Russia, frozen as a result of sanctions, could be used to restore the country. The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine has estimated their size at $415 billion and asks Western partners to develop a mechanism for the confiscation of this money in favor of Kyiv. According to Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, the West has frozen about $300 billion of the $640 billion in Central Bank reserves abroad.

At the same time, the World Bank estimated the damage to Ukraine from the Russian special operation at $60 billion. Bank President David Malpass specified that this is a preliminary estimate that does not include economic costs, we are talking about damage caused by the destruction of infrastructure and buildings. As the fighting continues, losses will increase. At the same time, according to the head of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Werner Hoyer, trillions of euros may be required to restore the destroyed Ukraine.

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, supported the idea of transferring the reserves of the Russian Central Bank for the restoration of Ukraine. According to him, the European Union should consider the issue of confiscation of the frozen assets, just as the United States confiscated the assets of the Central Bank of Afghanistan, which are planned to be used to compensate victims of terrorism and for humanitarian assistance to the country.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused Western countries of actually stealing Russia's gold and foreign exchange reserves. “When, after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, our Western “friends” stole from us more than $ 300 billion, in fact they stole what they paid themselves for gas. In other words, they have been using our gas for free all these years, — the minister emphasized.

The readiness to participate in the restoration of Ukraine after the end of the conflict was announced by the US State Department. The representative of the department, Ned Price, also said that Washington will continue to provide humanitarian, military and short-term economic assistance to Kyiv.
